Choosing The Best Hamster Cages

Your hamsters cage is a very important thing for both you and your pet hamster. This is especially true for the hamster as this will be his or her home and the place where they spend most of their time. Your hamster will eat sleep and play in their cage. This is why it is very important to choose a home for your hamster that will suit their needs, as opposed to just buying the first hamster cage that you come across or the cheapest for that matter. There are quite a few things that you should consider when looking for hamster cages.

The first thing that you should keep in mind about hamster cages is, will there be enough room for you pet or pets and their food and toys. A hamster cage may look roomy before a food dish, hamster toys and a little hiding place is added. You want to make sure your pet has room to move around and get the proper exercise that he or she needs.

Another thing to look for in a hamster cage is the ability to keep the cage clean and free of mess. Many plastic hamster cages can be harder to clean and therefore may be a bad choice for your pet. How easy will it be to clean out the bedding? Are there external parts that are not easily removed for cleaning? Will water damage the cage, this makes cleaning a lot harder? Can my pet damage the cage with his or her dropping or by chewing on it? These are all very important questions that you should ask yourself when you are searching for a good hamster cage.

The third question that you may want to ask yourself when you are shopping for hamster cages is, will I be able to add toys, tubes or a little hamster house to this hamster cage. Hamsters love to climb and crawl through tubes. They also like feeling secure in a small hamster hut or house inside of their cage. Take a good look at all the hamster cages at your local pet store or where ever you are shopping for your new pets home and see if the cage will be compatible with all the hamster gadgets that you will soon add.

The final characteristic of a good hamster cage is durability. You don't want to have to be replacing your pets cage often. Many times you are better off spending a little extra money on a hamster cage that is more well made then a cheaper, more easily damaged cage. This is often true with hamster cages that are mostly made up of plastic. They are easily damaged, hard to clean and will not last very long.

So shop wisely because you may not realize it at the time but shopping for a hamster cage may be the most important decision that you will make for your hamster of his or her life.
